NORTHERN PULP NOVA SCOTIA CORPORATION
Northern Pulp Nova Scotia Corporation was formed in 2008 with the acquisition of the Pictou Pulp Mill in Pictou, Nova Scotia from Neenah Paper, Inc. The Northern Pulp mill in Canada produces northern bleached softwood kraft pulp for use in making a variety of paper products, with flexibility to meet the individual demands of customers.
Blue Wolf’s investment has allowed Northern Pulp to improve productivity and position itself for an expected market rebound. Transaction challenges included a downturn in the lumber industry, a strong Canadian dollar inhibiting sales, increasing raw material costs, high energy costs, pension obligations, the environmental sensitivity of the business, and the fact that pulp is a commodity business. Blue Wolf was able to leverage a supportive Provincial government, an experienced work force and strong managers, a high quality product, and excellent customer relationships to create a long term, competitive enterprise.
